As part of its Lifecycle Data Management Solution, BakBone customers can now use disk-based backup targets as reliable and scalable backup alternatives that are tightly integrated with existing tape technology.

Virtual Tape Libraries allocated on today's low cost, high performance disk storage sub-systems provide an attractive alternative to directing backup data straight to tape. Using NetVault's Virtual Disk Library(TM) (VDL) support, customers can create pseudo tape libraries on disk storage devices to provide high performance backup targets that reduce backup window requirements. Virtual libraries can be easily scaled by simply adding more disk capacity, and tuned for available network bandwidth by managing the number of virtual drives in a library. Optionally, after backups complete, data can be migrated to real tape for long-term retention or copied leaving one backup set on disk for faster restores. With NetVault's VDL Support, data that has been migrated can be restored directly from tape media without requiring a re-staging to disk.
