WASHINGTON, D.C., FOSE Booth #3228, March 20, 2001 - Beginning today, U.S. Government agencies are now able to handle the backup and restoration of their most important data more easily and powerfully than ever before. BakBone Software (TSE: BKB, OTC: BKBOF), a global provider of storage management solutions, today announced that its flagship NetVault backup/restore software has been certified for sale to Federal government agencies
The announcement, made at the opening of the 25th annual FOSE conference here in Washington, D.C., enables BakBone to begin selling its software into the lucrative Federal marketplace. For fiscal year 2001, the Federal budget for information technology (IT) is estimated at $39.7 billion, with the Defense Department responsible for almost half of that amount.
NetVault's certification by the General Services Administration (GSA), through the award of a GSA Schedule, allows many government agencies to fully evaluate the software and quickly purchase it, seeing for themselves that NetVault empowers users to back up and restore their most important data with a leading blend of powerful performance and point-and-click simplicity.
A Federal Computer Week review said NetVault "takes (the) stress out of data backup," saying its versatile design works with the latest network-centric storage devices. "NetVault is ready for the latest networking and new generation of very fast backup devices. As more and more agencies find their data at risk, BakBone Software's NetVault is one of the top choices to safeguard that information," the review concluded.
Federal agencies already experiencing the powerful performance of NetVault include NASA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Naval Research Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory and more.
"Perhaps better than anyone else, Federal agencies understand the importance of making sure that the data they collect is secure," said Jack Corrao, BakBone's President/Chief Operating Officer. "As their data loads escalate, the need to easily handle the backup and restore of that information becomes an imperative. NetVault meets those needs today, and is designed to handle additional data across multiple configurations, from direct-attached storage to network-attached storage (NAS) and, ultimately, storage area networks (SANs)."
NetVault is available to the Federal market through BakBone Software's network of leading storage-centric reseller partners, including StorNet, Beyond.com (NASDAQ: BYND), GMR, IMS Systems, ProMark Technologies and more.
