BakBone Software, Network Appliance Announce NetVault™ 6.03 NDMP Application Plug-In Modules for NetApp® Filers.

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, January 30, 2001 - BakBone Software (TSE: BKB, OTC: BKBOF), a global provider of storage management software and Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, today announced the availability of NetVault 6.03 enterprise storage management software, featuring Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) v.3 support for Network Appliance environments.

NetVault 6.03 NDMP was specifically optimized for maximum performance on the NetApp filer, a robust, field-proven storage solution for consolidating data and simplifying data management, enhancing overall backup functionality. NetVault's NDMP for Network Appliance Application Plug-in Modules (APM™) maintains centralized backup administration, and providing fast, online backup and restore of data. The APM provides a full-featured solution for NetApp filers, including local backup, automation control, direct access restores and dynamic drive sharing, available for UNIX®, Windows NT®, Windows 2000®, and Linux®. This represents an improvement over traditional backup/restore software, which require intensive technical support for companies seeking to grow their storage capabilities.

"NetVault reduces the complexity of modern backup and restoration to a simple matter of selecting which options or configurations a company wants to exercise. Network Appliance™ filers for network-attached storage works with NetVault 6.03 as if the design teams had worked in the same room," said David Hill, research director at Aberdeen Group.

"Network Appliance customers like simplicity; BakBone's NetVault 6.03 with NDMP adopts this concept while providing broad functionality which we believe our customers will look for in their backup solution," said Judy Borcz, senior manager, systems software marketing.

"Network Appliance has changed the very definition of data storage," said Jack Corrao, BakBone's president and chief operating officer. "By combining NetVault with NetApp filers, companies can build data storage infrastructures that will powerfully and easily meet enterprise needs today and tomorrow."

NetVault 6.03, introduced earlier this month, incorporates an added range of features that make it easier than ever for companies to implement topologies based on network-attached storage-based or storage-area networks an important benefit with the evolution of SAN/NAS convergence. Among those features are:

  • Virtualized storage for NAS/SAN systems
  • Serverless client-to-client transfer
  • Clone backup
  • Improved archiving ability

NetVault also retains the ease of use and point-and-click simplicity that gives it a marketplace advantage over other backup and restore software products.

NetVault is available through an exclusive group of storage-centric channel partners. NetVault 6.03 for Windows NT/2000 and Red Hat Linux begins at $995. UNIX versions begin at $3,725.
