PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA - STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD - April 9, 2001 - BakBone Software (TSE: BKB, OTC: BKBOF), Inc., a global provider of storage software solutions, and Seagate Removable Storage Solutions (RSS), a leading manufacturer of computer tape drive and tape head products, today announced an OEM software bundle, under which Seagate will bundle a copy of BakBone's NetVault backup/restore software with its high performance Viper® 200 Ultrium tape drive and Viper 2000 autoloader sold through Seagate's resellers and authorized distributors.
Seagate officials said they chose to team-up/join with BakBone because of NetVault's demonstrated ability to handle backup loads with an unparalleled combination of power and ease of use. NetVault enables the award-winning Viper 200 drives to process data at a higher rate of throughput and efficiency than with any other software product available on the market today.
"The combination of NetVault and Viper 200 drives provide exceptional performance," said Brad Renfree, director of LTO Product Line Management for Seagate Removable Storage Solutions. "Companies seeking the higher performance of Ultrium-format LTO drives in their data storage topologies cannot afford to be slowed down by software that fails to meet their constantly growing demands. NetVault empowers our Viper drives to do the job they were designed to do, and make a tangible difference in the time it takes our customers to backup and restore their most important corporate-critical information."
"Before enterprises pay for a new tape drive, they want assurance that they will be able to extract full performance from it while performing their backup/restore operations," said David Hill, research director, Storage and Storage Management, Aberdeen Group. "The strong combination of Seagate's Viper LTO tape drive and BakBone's NetVault backup/restore software takes new steps toward providing the 'pay for performance' enterprises demand."
BakBone's NetVault represents a radical departure from software solutions offered by other firms, that require substantial upgrades and intensive technical support for companies seeking to grow their storage capabilities from direct-attached storage through network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area networks (SANs). It continues BakBone's tradition of offering software that combines powerful performance with unparalleled ease of use. In addition, the software is designed so that it can be installed within minutes or hours, instead of the days or weeks required by competing products.
"Seagate's LTO drives are enabling companies to move to the next level of data protection, through their ability to handle larger loads more quickly," said Barry Mattingly, BakBone's senior director, OEM Sales. "Powerful hardware demands powerful software with the ability to handle the tasks demanded of them. That's where NetVault comes in; working with Seagate's Viper drives and autoloaders, the combination enables people to feel more secure about getting the most from their investment. In today's rapidly changing storage environment, that's a message anyone can appreciate."
The NetVault/Viper drive bundle will be available in the first half of 2001 through Seagate's extensive network of value-added resellers and distributors or on the Internet at Seagate's online store for tape products at http://buytape.seagate.com.
