UTRECHT, NETHERLANDS, November 20, 2000 - RAM Mobile Data, a leader in wireless business solutions and data applications in the Netherlands, has chosen BakBone Software's (TSE: BKB, OTC: BKBOF) NetVault™ storage management software to safeguard the most important applications and data for some of the leading transportation companies throughout the Netherlands. RAM Mobile Data cited NetVault's ease-of-use, scalability and support as the major reasons for its decision.
Today's announcement underscores BakBone's emerging position as a global influencer in the storage management software market. Industry analysts estimate that the backup/restore software market is growing exponentially, from US$1.3 billion to US$5.7 billion, between 1999 and 2004.
Headquartered in Utrecht, RAM Mobile Data is a main player in the Applications Service Provider (ASP) market, providing mobile communication services to a large number of companies seeking to reduce the costs of maintaining their own network and IT infrastructure. RAM Mobile Data's core product, Track and Trace™, provides a mobile dispatch system by which customers can track vehicles and parcels through a web browser.
"Our customers require constant access to their data and applications," said Wouter Levenbach, technical director of RAM Mobile Data. "If they lose that access, they stand to lose significant business. Because of that, we need to backup the information on their databases while they are still running. NetVault makes it far easier for us to do so." Levenbach also cited BakBone's technical support with the installation, setup and ongoing management of the system.
BakBone's NetVault features the ability to easily manage the most intensive backup, restore and archiving functions across a wide range of computer platforms. The forthcoming version of NetVault, which enters beta testing this week, supports network-attached storage, and is compatible with Windows 2000. The current version already runs across multiple platforms, including most flavours of UNIX, Linux and Windows NT.
"We understand that simple yet effective solutions are needed in the storage management market; that's why NetVault is such a good fit for RAM Mobile Data," said Herman Doorn, sales manager of BakBone Netherlands. "As an ASP in the mobile communications market, RAM needs the security and confidence that the critical information in their data warehouses is safeguarded; that's exactly what NetVault provides."
"One of the main concerns is that we needed a storage management solution that will grow with our customers' data quantities. Through its scalability, NetVault will certainly do this. We can now assure our customers that any amount of data can be managed and stored effectively and efficiently," Levenbach commented.
RAM Mobile Data plans a second implementation of NetVault™ in their Brussels office to deal with the ever-increasing quantities of data of their customer base. "Mobile communications are set to take off and we need to assure that we can cope with the data explosion. NetVault will certainly help us to achieve this and what is even better is how it is so easy to manage without compromising power and productivity," stated Levenbach.
